The Banana Boat: Queen of the Camping Desserts

The Banana Boat: Queen of the Camping Desserts

When a s’more dreams, it dreams it’s a banana boat.
Course: Dessert
Keyword: banana
Author: Jeremy Miller

Instructions

  • Take an unpeeled banana and place it in the middle of a 12- x 12-inch piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • Carefully slice the banana lengthwise, as you would for a banana split. If possible, don’t slice completely through, but leave the down side of the peel intact.
  • Open the banana like a book. Along the length of the banana, insert four or five pieces of chocolate (or a handful of chocolate chips) and four half-pieces of marshmallow.
  • Optional: Insert crumbled graham cracker or berries.
  • Gently close the banana and securely wrap it with aluminum foil, carefully creasing the edges of the foil to reduce leakage. Place the package in the warm coals of a campfire for seven to ten minutes.
  • Use sticks or long barbeque tongs to remove the package from the coals and allow it to cool for ten minutes. Carefully unwrap the foil; eat with a spoon.
